Dr. Emmanuel Ahene Secures ONR Research Grant for SecureAI Project

August 25, 2026 CAIRLab Communications

Dr. Emmanuel Ahene, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at KNUST and Principal Investigator at CAIRLab, has secured a research grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), USA.

The grant funds the SecureAI Project, officially titled "Secure Artificial Intelligence Model for Predicting Cyber-attacks using Integrated Federated Learning Approach," and runs from September 2025 through August 2028.

The three-year grant is aimed at building cutting-edge, privacy-preserving AI frameworks that train AI models to securely collaborate across networks and defend against adversarial cyber-attacks.

This ONR grant is the funding mechanism powering the SecureAI Hackathon 2026, as well as the fully funded PhD and MPhil research fellowships CAIRLab has awarded to students building out these defensive systems.
