🔐 Promoting Cybersecurity Awareness Among the Next Generation! 💻🛡️
In commemoration of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, CAIRLab KNUST held a cybersecurity awareness outreach at KNUST Senior High School (KNUST SHS) on 24th October 2026, reaching over 1,000 students with practical knowledge on staying safe in an increasingly digital world.
The outreach aimed to equip students with essential safe internet practices, raise awareness of emerging cybersecurity threats, and inspire them to explore opportunities in the cybersecurity field.
🎤 Introducing CAIRLab KNUST The event opened with introductory remarks from Dr. Emmanuel Ahene, CAIRLab KNUST Principal Investigator and KNUST SHS alumnus. He introduced the students to CAIRLab KNUST, its mission, and its work, setting the stage for an engaging and insightful outreach. The event was coordinated by Dominic Agyili, a CAIRLab KNUST PhD researcher.
🌐 Building Safer Digital Habits In the first presentation, Emmanuel De-Graft highlighted essential internet safety practices and explained common entry points that malicious actors may exploit to compromise devices and systems. He also equipped the students with practical steps to take if they suspect they have been hacked or their devices compromised.
🤖 Understanding AI-Generated Deepfakes The second presentation, delivered by Doh Richard, explored how advances in artificial intelligence have made it possible to create convincing audio, video, and image deepfakes that fraudsters can exploit for deception. He guided students through practical exercises to help them identify deepfakes and think critically about the content they encounter online.
🚀 Inspiring Future Cybersecurity Professionals To conclude the event, Hoke Ishmael introduced the students to the diverse career opportunities available in cybersecurity and delivered the closing remarks, encouraging them to consider how they could contribute to building a safer digital future.
We are excited to have engaged over 1,000 young minds in conversations about cybersecurity, digital responsibility, and the opportunities that lie ahead. Empowering young people with the right knowledge is a vital step towards creating a safer digital society. 🌍🔒
